Pickering business, Cedarbarn Farm Shop and Café beat stiff competition to win the Rural Business of the Year category in the seventh annual Yorkshire Post Rural Awards.

Co-founder, Mandy Avison, who runs Cedar Barn with husband Karl said: “We’re over the moon to have won the Rural Business Award. The Avison family has farmed in the Pickering area for generations and we’re proud of the contribution that we make to our rural community.”

The winners were announced at an awards ceremony at The Pavilions in Harrogate on Thursday, 28th September.

Established in 1995, Cedarbarn began life as a small PYO strawberry business by fourth generation farmer, Karl. Since then the business has grown to include a popular shop and award winning café, sourcing a large percentage of its produce from its own and a neighbouring farm, as well as other selected local suppliers.  The team also run a miniature railway on site and expanded their popular PYO business to include seasonal produce including pumpkins.
