STAAL SMOKEHOUSE AWARDED THE GOOD HOUSEKEEPING INSTITUTE SEAL OF APPROVAL FOR ITS HIGHLY ACCLAIMED SMOKED SALMON

Family-run Staal Smokehouse, based in Long Riston, East Yorkshire, is on fire…literally, after its cold-smoked salmon has scooped yet another award to achieve the prestigious ‘approval’ of the Good Housekeeping Institute.

The smoke-to-order product from the artisan producer underwent rigorous taste tests by the judging panel and was pitched against 16 different smoked salmons from major retailers. Staal Smokehouse cold-smoked salmon was praised for its “well balanced flavour” and achieved joint fourth place; beating the likes of Fortnum & Mason, Waitrose and Marks & Spencer to name but a few.

Justin Staal who started Staal Smokehouse along with his wife Georgina in 2010 said: “We’re delighted with our latest award and as relative newcomers it’s a dream come true for our produce to be recognised alongside big guns such as Fortnum & Mason, let alone beat them.”

Justin continued, “With Christmas just around the corner it’s a time when everyone wants to indulge and enjoy delicious food ““ a lot of thought is put into the sourcing and preparation of the festive-fayre. Smoked salmon is now considered as much of a staple as the turkey, whether it’s served with scrambled eggs for breakfast, a decadent starter or the star of a blini. We’re hoping that awards such as these will encourage people to look beyond what their local supermarket has to offer and open their eyes to the phenomenal artisan produce available – all of which benefit from a good helping of both passion and expertise.”
