Taste of Christmas from the Devonshire Arms

The Devonshire Arms at Bolton Abbey are to give customers a taste of their restaurants during the festive season with their new recipe boxes

The award-winning hotel and restaurants Duchess-Approved Recipe Boxes were launched last month during lockdown and have proven to be so popular that the team have extended the menu to include options for both Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve dining.

The new boxes include all the ingredients and easy-to-follow recipes to create an impressive three-course menu for two people from the comfort of their own home.  Famous for their delicious estate-grown produce and locally sourced fayre, each box has been designed to optimise the fresh flavours of the estates seasonal ingredients and will change weekly to reflect what’s available.

The festive boxes will include cocktails such as Hazelnut Alexander and Smoky Old-fashioned, which come pre-made and ready to serve and each contains a number of optional extras including mince pies and chocolate fudge, gougères, shallot purée and Dale End cheddar; Champagne jellies and smoked salmon canapés and artisan cheeses from The Courtyard Dairy.

The Christmas Day Menu includes four courses features as Salmon Gravlax, Yorkshire Game Terrine, Roast Turkey and of course Christmas Pudding with Pedro Ximinéz Soaked Prunes and Brandy Custard to finish.  Whilst the New Year’s Eve Menu will see 2020 off in style with a Lobster Cocktail, Beef Wellington and Dark Chocolate Fondant with Chestnut & Salted Caramel Custard to finish.

The menus for each box have been created by Head Chef, Ross Forder: “Great dining has always been at the core of our hotels, with the aim of providing fresh, local and unfussy food, which showcases some of the produce raised and grown on and around our estates.

“Our boxes have proven to be really popular over the last few weeks and we’re really looking forward to sharing our Christmas and New Year menus with everyone to enjoy at home.”

The box initiative comes after a busy summer for the Devonshire team who were able to host visitors again once Lockdown measures had been eased in their pop-up Laurent Perrier Champagne & Seafood Terrace.  Further plans for a similar outdoor dining experience were planned for the autumn season but were postponed due to Covid restrictions.   The team are however hoping to get The Yurtshire Arms Soup Kitchen and Ale House, which was planned to run until February 2021, open once measures are eased.

The Christmas Day Recipe Box includes a four-course menu for two people and costs £100.  Orders must be placed by midnight on Sunday 13th December for delivery on 23rd December. For more information on what’s contained in each box and to order online visit www.devonshirehotels.co.uk/duchess-dining/
