Thixendale couple celebrates shortlist success

The husband and wife team behind Thixendale business, Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil is celebrating after being shortlisted for a prestigious Red Ribbon Award that is exclusively for family businesses.

Hosted by Family Business Place, the Red Ribbon awards are the UK’s only national awards that recognise the achievements of family-run companies of all sizes and across all sectors.
Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil has been shortlisted in the Small Business Category that recognises small family businesses that have demonstrated outstanding performance in a number of aspects including commercial success, local community, innovation and strong leadership.

Of the success, Adam Palmer, who started the award winning business just 5 years ago with his wife, Jennie said: “This is the first time that we have entered the Red Ribbon awards and the first time that our young business has been shortlisted for a national award. Naturally, we’re very proud to have reached the final and to put the village of Thixendale on the family business map.
The Red Ribbon awards are great for smaller businesses like ours (just 3 full time employees) as they enable us to compete against much bigger brands. At the end of the day, we’re all family run businesses and face similar challenges, albeit on a different scale.”

Anita Brightley-Hodges, Managing Director of Family Business Place says,
“This year has been another record-breaking year for Red Ribbon Award entries. We have been overwhelmed by the quality and variety of the nominations which just goes to prove there are some real hidden gems out there who deserve to be recognised.

It’s no secret that family-run businesses are the backbone of the UK economy. In times of uncertainty they are the last ones to make redundancies, keep a long-term view for the business and stay true to their founding values of integrity, trust and loyalty.”

At Family Business Place we are honoured to present the Red Ribbon Awards to some of the best the sector has to offer and look forward to welcoming some of the UK’s most loved family business names as well as small, undiscovered gems and announcing the winners in London on 20th June.”

The winners will be announced at the 2014 Red Ribbon Awards Ceremony at the Goldsmith’s Hall where finalists and their guests will enjoy a champagne reception, fine dining, live entertainment and a Charity Auction.

Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil faces tough competition from companies such as Walter Wright Hats and Skipbridge Country Weddings in the Small Business Category.

Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil was established in 2008 by Adam and Jennie Palmer on their family farm in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds. They now produce a range of oils, dressing and mayonnaise based on their award winning rapeseed oil that is produced exclusively from home and Yorkshire Wolds grown rape and blended, bottled and labelled on the family farm.
The oil is used in Michelin starred kitchens, including the Pipe and Glass at South Dalton, and all products are preservative, GM and gluten free and are suitable for vegetarians.
Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil products are also available at farmers’ markets, farm shops, delis and independent retailers throughout Yorkshire.
