A Huddersfield dairy farmer has signed up to walk on fire and jump out of an aeroplane within the same week for charity.
Jeremy Holmes of Yummy Yorkshire will be taking part in a tandem sky dive on 5 October in aid of Brainwave, the national charity which aims to improve children’s mobility, communication skills, and learning potential, through a range of educational and physical therapies.
The sky dive will take place at Hibaldstow, Leicestershire, which is the UK’s highest drop zone at 15,000ft and Jeremy needs to raise a minimum of £200 to take part.
Six days after the sky dive Jeremy will then be gearing up to walk on fire as part of a sponsored firewalk challenge to raise much-needed funds for One Community, the new Kirklees Charitable Foundation.
Jeremy will walk barefoot over red hot burning embers at the event taking place at Yummy Yorkshire’s Denby Dale farm on Saturday 11 October, from 6.30pm.
By undertaking the ‘Walk of Fire’, he and other participants will be raising vital funds to enable the Foundation to continue its work, managing the grants that it gives to Kirklees voluntary groups.
Speaking about the charity challenges Jeremy said: “I’m looking forward ““ albeit with a slight sense of trepidation ““ to taking part in these two charity challenges which will both be new experiences for me.
“I chose Brainwave on behalf of Sam Bottomley, the son of one of our farm workers, Steve, who has cerebral palsy and received a lot of support from this charity. Similarly, I wanted to help the One Community who are doing lots of inspiring work for voluntary groups in Kirklees. As well as providing a location for the event, I wanted to show my support by rolling up my trousers and taking part in the firewalk!”
The event on 11 October will start with an inspiring one hour seminar and training session before participants take to the 800 degrees centigrade burning embers.
Entertainment will be provided on the night by African drumming group, the Pennine Rumblers, while a BBQ will be dishing up locally sourced meat accompanied by warm spiced cider and local Farmers Blonde beer. Cooling Yummy Yorkshire Ice Cream will also be available.
Jeremy added: “For those not quite brave enough why not come along and support myself and the other firewalkers on what promises to be a unique night? The event starts at 6.30pm, no ticket is required, just turn up and support us!”
