Yorkshire Brewery and Hop Merchant Show Off Britain’s Cutting-Edge Hops

After 16 years of collaborative working, East-Yorkshire-based Great Newsome Brewery has produced a new beer with Charles Faram, the UK’s leading hop merchant, to showcase the very best in British hops.

Grown in Britain for centuries, classic varieties of hops continue to thrive, with new ones now popping up in brewers’ recipes across the country.

Emperor, the latest offering from Great Newsome Brewery, is a 5.0% premium bitter which makes full use of GodivaTM and the fittingly named Emperor®; two new British hops grown as part of Charles Faram’s Hop Development programme.

James Hodgson, Head Brewer at Great Newsome said: “Both Faram’s and ourselves really want to show off the brilliant new hops being bred on our island, and this new beer does just that. Emperor is the latest in our “Chrysalis” beers; a range of real ales named after British butterflies.”

An award-winning microbrewery based on the Hodgson family farm in Winestead, Great Newsome’s range showcases the best of British beer styles with names such as Sleck Dust, Pricky Back Otchan and Frothingham Best.

Great Newsome’s Director Matthew Hodgson adds: “We’re farmers as well as brewers, so we want to do everything we can to support British growers. There are some really exciting new hops being grown right now in the UK and, in my opinion, British breweries need to get behind them.”
