Yorkshire Businesses Triumph at Great Taste Awards.

A host of gold stars are heading their way to Yorkshire thanks the success of food and drink businesses in the county.

Known as the Oscars of the food and drink world, the Great Taste Awards, run by the Guild of Fine food are recognised as a stamp of excellence throughout the industry and their list of the 2022 winners were announced last week.

More than 14,000 products were put through the competition’s rigorous blind judging process earlier this year, with 4,078 products awarded a Great Taste 1-star (‘food and drink that delivers fantastic flavour), 1,237 awarded 2-stars (‘above and beyond delicious’) and just 241 receiving the coveted Great Taste 3-star award of excellence denoting ‘extraordinarily tasty food and drink’.

Amongst this year’s winning products from Yorkshire was Lishman of Ilkley’s Coppa, which was awarded 2 stars by the judging panel, made up of renowned chefs, buyers and food writers.

Coppa, which is cured from the neck (rib eye) of an outdoor reared pig and air dried for at least 6 weeks,

was dubbed by the panel as a “carefully and cleverly made product that tasted as good as it looks with a deep buttery, earthy flavour.  Well balanced and well cured with melt-in-the-mouth texture.”

Owner Emma Lishman said: “We are beyond chuffed to have won a Great Taste award for our Coppa.

“We pride ourselves on using traditional techniques and recipes; with only the very best outdoor-reared, high welfare Yorkshire pork from our favourite pig farmer, Colin Piercy. We’re super proud to work with such outstanding farmers and to be adding yet another iconic black and gold Great Taste logo to one of our charcuterie products. You really can appreciate the quality of the animal husbandry when you enjoy our products.”

Also on this year’s winner’s roster were West Yorkshire based Dark Woods Coffee who were awarded an impressive 18 stars in total including four 3-Star and six 2-Star awards.

In total, 217 Yorkshire products were awarded the coveted gold stars, with other 3-Star award winners from the region including Burtree Puddings and Yorkshire Handmade Pies, whilst Shepherds Purse, Ali Bilton Cooks, Just Delicious, Coffee Care, Raisthorpe Manor, Masons, Swaledale Online Butchers, Rounton Coffee, Sheffield Honey Company, Yorkshire Smokehouse at Mackenzies, Yorkshire Pecorino and Tame and Wild all taking home 2-Star awards for their products.
