Yorkshire whisky distillery launches first special release whisky

The team at Yorkshire’s first single malt whisky distillery are celebrating the launch of their first special release single malt whisky this month.

Filey Bay Yorkshire Day is the first of a limited run of releases that will be launched annually at the Hunmanby distillery’s Open Day and is a combination of bourbon and PX sherry casks that were laid down in 2016 and bottled at a higher strength than other releases at 55% ABV.

Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery Co-Founder David Thompson said: “Although we had to cancel this year’s Open Day, we have been working hard behind the scenes to bring this long awaited release to market and are delighted that it is now available for sale in the distillery shop.”

Whisky Director, Joe Clark commented: “We really pleased with the flavour profile of the distillery’s fifth single malt release. It’s rich and spicy with flavours of dried fruits, cocoa, honey, hazelnut, caramel and black pepper and we’re expecting it to sell out quickly!”

“With only 1500 bottles available, Filey Bay Yorkshire Day is our rarest whisky release to date. It’s also our oldest whisky to be bottled so far and it’s unlikely to be around for long.”

Launched in 2016 as a collaboration between farmer and brewer Tom Mellor from Wold Top Brewery and business partner David Thompson, Spirit of Yorkshire is a field to bottle distillery and bottled their first single malt whisky 2019 and have continued to release a number of other editions.

The new Filey Bay Yorkshire Day costs £85 and is available exclusively from the distillery shop and online at spiritofyorkshire.com. The distillery shop is open from 10 – 4pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 3pm on Sundays and pre-booked tours of the Distillery tours are also available each day.
