Yorvale launch new branding

North Yorkshire based ice cream producer Yorvale have launched their new branding to reflect their proud British farming heritage.

The family run company, based at Fossfield Farm in Acaster Malbis is run by husband and wife team Ian and Lesley Buxton and produce an award-winning range using milk from their own herd of Friesians.

Originally a rented North Yorkshire County Council dairy farm, the Buxton’s took over the business in the 1980’s, initially producing just 12 flavours of ice cream.

Since then the team, along with the range has expanded and now produce over 40 varieties of ice cream along with sorbets and non-dairy options with the capacity to produce 1900 litres per hour.

Lesley said: “We decided it was time for a little refresh and have chosen to increase the number of cows on our branding along with including a British flag on our new packaging designs, to really showcase our dairy farming roots and our heritage.

“The farm and the cows, known as our girls, really are at the heart of our business and are treated very much as part of the family, so it was only right that they were front and centre on our new branding.”

“We’ve also chosen to include the British flag for many reasons, one of which is to really showcase our British roots and one of our four values, which is tradition.

“Since starting production we’ve always opted for a more traditional route wherever possible, whether that’s in how we milk the cows, how we produce our ice creams and sorbets or how we create our traditional British flavours. We certainly love a traditional way of doing things, which may be more time-consuming, but gives us control over the end product and means we can ensure our high-quality standards throughout.”

As well as using traditional methods as a corner stone of the business the team are also continually creating new flavours and collaborating with fellow Yorkshire artisan producers.

“We love teaming up with fellow food and drink businesses and are currently working with York Gin, Bracken Hill and The Cookie Dough Co to create some of our most popular flavours.  We’re also really proud that all of our cream is sourced locally from a local dairy farmer.”

After purchasing the farm in 1998 the business was able to expand into purpose-built on farm facilities in 2000 to process the herds fresh milk just 100 meters from the parlour.  The expansion allowed Yorvale to gain a BRC accreditation, which in turn opened doors to larger distributors and a wider customer base.  It also enabled the team to branch out into different product lines including the launch of their Yorlife Kefir.

Lesley continues: “The additional two cows on the new branding represent the developments we’ve made since the first day we started producing ice cream and really highlights our growth over the last 30 years.”
