Yummy Yorkshire supports Sam’s Wish to Walk with ice cream sales donations

Award-winning ice cream company Yummy Yorkshire is supporting a young Huddersfield boy in his wish to be able to walk independently.

Six year old Sam Bottomley, from Mirfield, is the son of Steve Bottomley who works on Yummy Yorkshire’s south Huddersfield dairy farm. Sam was born with cerebral palsy, which makes the muscles in his legs so tight and stiff that he cannot stand or walk without adult support.
He has been given the chance of having a life-changing operation at Leeds General Infirmary called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR), which will ultimately help him to stand and walk independently.

The ice cream maker is helping six year old Sam Bottomley in his mission to raise £35,000, which will go towards the cost of the operation and the general funds of charity Tree of Hope, which supports families of sick children in the UK who need specialist surgery.

Yummy Yorkshire has kick-started Sam’s fund-raising activity with a £100 donation and has also pledged to donate 20p from every scoop of chocolate ice cream ““ Sam’s favourite flavour ““ sold between now and March when the operation is scheduled to take place.
Jeremy Holmes, co-founder of the business says: “As parents ourselves we knew we wanted to do something to support Sam in his fundraising activity and help him achieve his dream of walking.

“Donating 20p from every chocolate cone sold is a delicious way to fundraise”“ it’s the perfect excuse to indulge. The ice-cream is on sale at our ice cream parlour near Denby Dale so we encourage everyone to stop by for a taste. After all, the more chocolate ice-cream we sell the more money we can raise for Sam.”

Karen Bottomley, Sam’s mum adds: “We’d like to say a big heart-felt thank you to Jeremy, Louise and the team at Yummy Yorkshire for their support with Sam’s wish to walk.”
