Britain’s First Skyr Producer Launches in Waitrose

An award-winning dairy business in the Yorkshire Dales are set to launch their innovative products into Waitrose & Partners stores.

Hesper Skyr based near Malham, were the first farm in Britain to produce the Icelandic yoghurt and are still the only farm in the country making it using British milk and an original skyr culture. Using around four times as much fresh milk as a standard yoghurt, skyr is naturally high in protein and calcium as well as containing no fat.

The new listing with Waitrose will see three of their flavours – Cold Brew Coffee & Vanilla, Yorkshire Strawberry (a collaboration with Yorkshire strawberry farm Annabel’s Deliciously British) and Simply Natural launch in 196 stores across the UK.

Founded in 2015, Hesper Skyr was created after owner Sam Moorhouse travelled to Iceland to learn the techniques used in making the traditional yoghurt before returning home to create his own version using milk from his award winning herd of cows.

The family run business have since won a host of both regional and national awards for their range of products with Sam also being recognised as Dairy Innovator of the Year in the British Farming Awards.

Sam said: “We’re really excited about our new listing with Waitrose & Partner’s and can’t wait to see our products on the shelves.  We hope that our commitment to high-welfare, sustainable farming and bold, uncompromising premium products will really resonate with their customers.

“This is an exciting time for the business as we continue to grow and innovate and we are hopeful that Waitrose’s customers will really enjoy what we do now and into the future.”

Hesper Skyr is available at selected supermarkets and independent retailers throughout the UK and at Waitrose stores from this week.  For more information visit www.hesper.uk
