Bumper ‘Summer of Fun’ has begun at Keelham Farm Shop

With over 40 years’ experience of putting the fun into food, the award-winning team at family-owned Keelham Farm Shop have created a whole Summer of Fun to help families beat the boredom over the school holidays.

Adding ‘fun, healthy and educational’ to the wish-list of children’s activities can test the wits of even the most resourceful parents but, at Keelham’s shops in Thornton and Skipton, there is a feast of food-based activities taking place from 10am-4pm every day across the six-week break, designed to inspire and inform Keelham’s young shoppers about food and farming.

Each week has a different drop-in activity, from helping avid athletes to learn all about the health benefits of different types of food with Keelham’s workshop ‘Eat Like an Olympian’, to activities for little green fingers where they can ‘Make a Green Garden,’ using organic compost made from local garden waste.

Victoria Robertshaw, co-owner of Keelham Farm Shop commented: “Keeping the kids entertained for the long summer holiday can be a daunting task and it’s easy to run out of ideas, so we want to make sure that parents can enjoy everyday tasks like food shopping while the kids are having plenty of fun of their own. We find that children are really curious about where food comes from and how it’s made. The journey that food takes, from field to fork, is one that kids love to find out about and we show them really easy ways that we can all help our environment.”

Customers enjoying Keelham’s Summer of Fun activities are given the opportunity to make a voluntary donation to the Yorkshire Children’s Hospices’ Appeal. Donations will help three Yorkshire children’s hospices – Martin House in Boston Spa, Bluebell Wood in Sheffield and Forget-Me-Not in Huddersfield to continue to support children and their families with life-shortening conditions. Throughout the summer, Keelham will also be donating the 5p carrier bag charge to the three Yorkshire Children’s Hospices’ appeal.
