East Yorkshire Brewery Wins Again in World Beer Awards!

Holderness based Great Newsome Brewery has walked away from the World Beer Awards 2014 with yet another award for its Frothingham Best beer following success in the same awards in 2013.
Frothingham Best, which takes its name from the small hamlet in which the brewery is based took a bronze award in the ‘Bitters up to 5%’ in Europe in the 2014 World Beer Awards announced this weekend. The World Beer Awards are becoming a happy hunting ground for the family run East Yorkshire brewery which adds it’s bronze award to the European and World gold it received in the 2013 World Beer Awards for the same beer when it took the title ‘The World’s Best Bitter up to 5% abv’.
The World Beer Awards which were announced on Saturday 27th September and are held annually take entries from breweries all over the world including the USA, Canada, Germany, France and Japan and are blind tasted by a panel of carefully selected judges under the guidance of respected beer writer and journalist Roger Protz.
“It is again fantastic recognition for all of the hard work from the team here at the brewery”, said Matthew Hodgson, director of Great Newsome Brewery,” Following the success of last year’s awards we received huge media exposure and sales of Frothingham Best have far outweighed what we had forecast to a point where it has become by far our best selling beer”.
“Last year I forgot we had even entered but this year I had it marked on the calendar not thinking for a minute that we could win in the awards 2 years in succession. Once again though we appear to have held our own on the international stage”, he added.
A dark amber best bitter, Frothingham Best has been brewed since 2008 and is available as both a bottle and as a cask beer. The beer has won awards previously gaining a Silver in its category in the 2009 SIBA (Society of Independent Brewers) North Awards, in 2011 was Highly Commended and is a finalist in 2014 in the Yorkshire’s Finest Taste Awards, Gold Star Winner in the Great Taste Awards 2014 and was shortlisted in the inaugural MTT Yorkshire Beer Awards 2013. On top of its 2013 World and European Gold in the World Beer Awards.
Great Newsome Brewery which uses old local dialect and points of interest to name its beers, like Sleck Dust, Pricky Back Otchan and Frothingham Best is based on a working farm near Patrington just outside Hull and celebrated its 7th birthday back in April. It now supplies its award winning cask and bottles beers throughout the UK and overseas.
