East Yorkshire businesses shortlisted in national meat and poultry awards

The teams at two East Yorkshire food businesses are celebrating after reaching the final of the Meat and Poultry Processing Awards 2017.

Middleton on the Wolds based Soanes Poultry has been shortlisted for two awards and Tibthorpe business, The Yorkshire Wagyu Company has reached the final of the Small Processor of the Year.

The eighth Meat & Poultry Processing Awards recognise and reward excellence and innovation by processors and processing companies who are driving forward initiatives and improvements in both the home and export markets.

A heat recovery project undertaken with Beverley based DK Heat Recovery has earned Soanes Poultry, who celebrate their 70th year in business in 2017, a place in the final of the Environmental Initiative of the Year Award, whilst its business growth has been rewarded with a shortlist in the Foodservice Processor of the Year Award.

Soanes Poultry’s General Manager, Nigel Upson is thrilled to have reached the final: “We’ve had a great year and the shortlist is testament to the hard work of the whole team.”

The Yorkshire Wagyu Company’s place in the final of the Small Processor of the Year reflects its business development, community investment and environmental credentials.

The Yorkshire Wagyu Company’s co-founder, farmer Jonathan Shepherd, is equally pleased: “We are a very young business and are honoured to be rubbing shoulders with much bigger and more established businesses than ours and are looking forward to the awards ceremony on 2nd March.”
