Laverack’s Expansion on a (Sausage) Roll

An East Yorkshire based butchers have expanded their already famous sausage roll production by investing nearly a quarter of million pounds in their facilities to keep up with demand.

A Laverack and Son, based in Holme-On-Spalding-Moor, have been trading in the county for more than 150 years and have two thriving retail outlets as well as a wholesale arm of the business which currently supplies a number of shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs and other businesses across Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.

The thriving business, which is known for its sausage rolls in the area, reached capacity in early 2016 with its production, and plans were put in place to extend the business and focus on developing and expanding this key area.

The expansion on their current premises was completed in December just ahead of the busy festive season which saw the family firm of five generations sell in excess of 30,000 sausage rolls in the two weeks leading up to Christmas alone.

Laverack’s, who now employ over 35 local people, source meat from local farms within a 7 mile radius of the shop and local markets, butchering everything on site and priding themselves on the quality and provenance of their meat.

Amy Laverack, General Manager said: “It’s the cornerstone of our business that we understand where all the meat we sell was sourced, how it was fed, how it lived and how it was slaughtered.

“The expansion has allowed us to extend and treble our production in order to keep up with demand.  We’ve also been able develop new flavours and sizes and take on 2 new members of staff, so we are really looking forward to a busy 2017 ahead and supplying our products to a number of new outlets across the region and beyond.”
