Over £800 raised at Side Oven Bake Day for Ukraine

The team at an East Yorkshire bakery have raised over £800 in aid of the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal through a special charity Bake Day.

Side Oven Bakery based at Foston on the Wolds pledged to donate all the proceeds from the sale of their award-winning baked goods at the event on Saturday 12th March.

Owner Jessica said: “The support from local people and customers has been phenomenal and we we’re delighted to report that it was our biggest bake day to date with over 400 croissants made and sold alongside many loaves of bread, cheese straws, Focaccia and Mediterranean breads!

“We’d like to say a huge thanks to all our loyal customers and local people who helped to support the day and enabled us to donate such a large amount.  As a small local business it’s been amazing to be able to achieve this and to ultimately help the people of Ukraine.”

Situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds, the farm has been run by the Sellers family for five generations and now produces a wide range of hand made products including apple juices, breads, granolas and cereals which are milled using traditional methods.

All money raised through the sales at the bakery will be donated to the Just Giving Page organised by the #CookforUkraine appeal, which will be directed to UNICEF’s UK Ukraine Appeal, supporting children and families.

Jessica continues: “All the bakers donated their time to allow as much as possible to be donated to this hugely worthy cause and we’re thrilled to be able to donate a substantial amount to help.”

As well as a popular bakery, the Side Oven team also run regular seasonal bakery workshops as well as other wildlife and bakery events throughout the year.

Their next event, a special Mother’s Day PYO Rhubarb Open Day takes place this weekend (Sunday 27th March) from 10am – 3pm and will allow visitors to the farm the chance to pick their own rhubarb, meet the pet lambs, explore the organic farm on a woodland walk and enjoy freshly baked treats from the bakery.  Entry is free but pre-booking with your arrival time and group size is required via bakery@sideoven.com
