Proudfoot to celebrate Yorkshire heritage with tasting event

Scarborough’s Proudfoot supermarkets are set to celebrate their Yorkshire roots next week, with a grand tasting event on 1st August to mark Yorkshire Day.

The popular annual event, which will return after a 3 year break due to Covid, will take place at their Newby store on Scalby Road from 12pm – 4pm and showcase food and drink from a wide variety of suppliers throughout the county, including Anna’s Happy Trotters, Beacon Farm Ice Cream, Coopland’s Bakery, Yorkshire Baker, Wold Top Brewery, Masons Yorkshire Gin, McCain and many more.

Valerie Aston, co-director of the Proudfoot Group, said: “We’ve always been proud to support Yorkshire suppliers and our annual Yorkshire Day event showcases some of the quality, local produce available, while encouraging the local community to celebrate our wonderful county with us and sample some of the best of what Yorkshire has to offer.

Family owned Proudfoots, have been operating within the town for over 70 years and are a staple of the Scarborough high street stocking and supporting many local businesses on their shelves. Customers will also have the chance to sample foods from Proudfoot’s own deli and butchery counters, as well as a tempting selection from their Co-op own label range.

Valerie continues: “There’s always a fantastic atmosphere in-store during our Yorkshire Day event and it allows customers to meet the passionate people behind the local produce they’re enjoying.”

As well as plenty of opportunities for product sampling, the day will also offer customers prize draws, giveaways and face painting, and a hamper will be raffled on the day to raise money for local causes via the store’s Making a Difference Locally fund.

Alongside a passion for showcasing and championing products from local companies, the Scarborough based business are also passionate about supporting the local community through fundraising and have donated over £120,000 to local causes to date from the sale of plastic bags and other activities over recent years.
